About
“Curanderismo is a type of holistic folk medicine traditionally used in Mexican
and Mexican American cultures. Followers of this healing system define disease as
having both biological and spiritual causes and, therefore, utilize curanderos who treat on
three levels—material, spiritual, and mental (Texas State Historical Association, 2015).
These material, spiritual, and mental processes are integrated within healing rituals and
result in a type of insight termed actualization. This actualization results in individual
growth. (Torres and Hicks, 2016)”
Combining the practices of the generations before them with their expertise from a decade of practice in Professional Counseling, Maritza uses energy work, body work, tarot readings, traditional psychotherapy interventions and trauma-informed modalities to help their clients divest from oppression, establish equitable relationships, and understand their emotions, thoughts, and needs.
Maritza has been a helper since 2001, and is committed to justice in the greater world and in personal relationships. You can look up their profile on Inclusive Therapists here.
When they are not performing Curanderismo, Maritza is a writer of fiction and non-fiction, mixed-media artist, producer, performer, and community member of Austin, Texas.

Reviews and Testimonials
Ritz’s coaching got me through some of the darkest times of my life. It can be overwhelming when you are trying to heal and recover from years of trauma and/or abuse, and Ritz helped me untangle who I really am from the web of lies that trauma had woven around me, trapping me in place. With Ritz’s help, I’ve become empowered to take the steps I need to in order to heal and move forward in my life. Ritz’s coaching breathed hope into me again when I needed it most, and I wouldn’t be who I am today without her guidance.

Ritz as a coach speaks the truth. Society conditions us to believe lies about who we are, who we should be, and what we are capable of. Ritz doesn’t buy that bullshit, and she knows you don’t want to, either. So she tells the truth. Sometimes that truth can be hard to hear, but it always has been, for me, the words that I need to care well for myself and move forward in action.
