Hello and welcome to the RLC website. Here, you can learn about, sign up to work with, and gather resources created by Maritza Valle.
Maritza Valle (They/Them) is a Curandera – a mental and emotional health professional with two decades of experience using various modalities to help the marginalized divest from and heal while still under oppression.
Maritza’s work is informed by their education and experience. Maritza holds three Bachelor’s degrees from The University of Texas(2008), a Masters in Professional Counseling from Texas State University(2014), was previously licensed in both Professional Counseling and Massage Therapy, and has always been influenced by their family lineage of community-centered Brujeria. In 2020, Maritza retired their licenses to embrace more wholistic and integrated work that better aligns with indigenous wisdom and their personal values. They are committed to continuing education and keep an informed, ethical practice through ongoing trauma-informed, POC-led, trainings, courses, and reading lists.
As a Curandera, Maritza conducts sessions in their home studio and online via the zoom platform where they use their decades of experience, education, and energy work to help clients locate and solve their solvable problems from an empowered, justice-oriented, intersectional lens.
Work with Maritza normalizes relational needs as innately human. In sessions, Maritza assists clients in looking for ways to get their needs met while resisting and divesting from oppression, exploitation, abuse and violence both in intimate and non-intimate spheres.
Sessions are usually 45 or 90 minutes long, and include a focus on: Naming emotions and sensations, Labeling thoughts, Applying self-compassion, and tracking a trajectory toward the client’s goals. Maritza is a co-conspirator in clients’ liberation, bringing expertise and insight but always following the client’s wisdom and preference on modalities and pace.
Curanderismo sessions can be about any mental, emotional, energetic, or sexual topic or topics the client wants help with. However, Maritza does specialize in working with clients who have one or more marginalized identity markers, and most often works with neurodivergent folks who have been in therapy before and seek a more intentional, intersectional perspective from their helper.
Maritza is educated, trained, and experienced in using trauma-specific modalities such a narrative processing and bi-lateral stimulation for memory/experience reprocessing. Their energy work includes intuitive body scanning, tarot reading, empathic somatic release, and therapeutic touch.
Maritza is a creative whose visual art, creative writing, and other explorations can be found on instagram (@ritzilacochina) and their website (ritzilacochina.com)
